Pilot Assessment

Competency Assessment Methods (Pilot Sessions)

During the pilot sessions, the six learning outcomes are assessed through a blended portfolio of practical methods rather than a single examination. Each method below specifies the activity doctors complete, the evidence a trainer collects for the micro-credential portfolio, and the learning outcome it maps to, so that assessment, content, and credit stay aligned.

Case Study Analysis

Analyse the Dr M on-call case in this module: classify the physiological, cognitive, and organisational mechanisms in play at each hour, then design a layered intervention plan distinguishing personal mitigation, team prevention, and rota/system change.

Completed case-analysis worksheet scored against the layered-intervention rubric (analytic depth, layer accuracy, feasibility).

Competence outcomes

MCQ Knowledge Self-Check

Complete the 8-item multiple-choice assessment plus short-answer items covering stress physiology, fatigue thresholds, appraisal stages, and the three justice components.

Auto-scored MCQ + short-answer sheet (pass threshold ≥ 50%, e.g. 4/8) filed in the portfolio.

Knowledge outcomes

Reflection Questions

Complete the four-domain fatigue-and-boundary self-audit (sleep, micro-recovery, switching, on-call recovery) across four duty cycles, with written reflection on personal early-warning signs and one boundary-work technique to trial.

Duty-cycle log, per-cycle reflective notes, and self-evaluation template in the participant portfolio.

Skills outcomes

Group Exercise (Fairness Mapping)

In small groups, map procedural, distributive, and interactional (in)justice onto a shared rota and team-interaction scenario; sort each factor into individual-level versus rota/system-level action and agree one improvement target.

Photographed group fairness map plus a short written rationale on the group worksheet.

Knowledge & Competence outcomes

Trainer Observation (Reappraisal & Escalation Drill)

Rehearse cognitive reappraisal aloud against three pressured-decision vignettes and demonstrate the fatigue-escalation phrase in a role-play; a trained observer scores performance live.

Trainer observation checklist completed against a structured behavioural rubric.

Skills outcomes

Coaching Circle (Prevention-Initiative Design)

Present a 90-day team primary-prevention plan to a facilitated peer circle; give and receive structured feedback and commit to one measurable first action.

Signed prevention-initiative commitment card and peer-feedback notes logged for the 90-day review.

Skills & Competence outcomes

Pilot portfolio: Doctors are deemed competent for the micro-credential when the portfolio contains the case-analysis worksheet, MCQ + short-answer sheet, four-cycle fatigue-and-boundary log with reflections, group fairness map, trainer observation checklist, and signed prevention-initiative commitment card. Trainers record any item not yet met and re-offer it during the four-cycle follow-up window.
